“The parallel of the past and future existing in one present”
Re-conceptualizing our idea of time itself, ITER MORA grabs on to the themes of retro and Afrofuturism in order to combine the two medias of film and fashion.
Channeling his Amazigh, the traditional clothing of North Africa, roots, Elias Riadi founded ITER MORA as a way to give breath to stories that have yet to unfold. The brand's debut collection dubbed “Orion Au Sahara 2970” pulls inspiration from nomadic Tuareg warriors to create technical desert suits and veiled headpieces that invite us to envision Southern Morocco under a new lens.
The collection further includes pieces that invoke an attitude of the extraterrestrial but they manage to remain grounded through the practicality of their gorp core elements. This being the brands staple orbital pockets, the of the knitted hoods, the brands staple orbital pockets, and crew-necks.
What not only gives “Orion Au Sahara 2970” but ITER MORA as a whole that nostalgic yet futuristic feel is their ability to use traditional techniques, such as knitwear, and fuse it with 3D design rendering and laser cutting fabrics to create this space in which the past and future are existing in one present.
This idea of connecting both the past and future in one present has direct connections to Afrofuturism which is a genre that is used by the African Diaspora to explore the African Diaspora experience apart from the constraints of colonialism. Typically this genre utilizes sci-fi elements in order to do this and with the use of mechanical attachments, vibrancy of the colors, and contacts in the eyes ITER MORA is working to envision a world outside of traditional influences.
Though not explicitly stated the recent roll out of Butter x Reebok x HP slides made utilizing 3D printing and brands like NEXTBERRIEZ using AI to construct whole collections it is clear the Afrofuturistic aesthetic is slowly making its way into the fashion realm even if that may be more implicitly said,.
Taking us through a journey of introspective exploration, Iter Mora’s “Orion Au Sahara 2970” transports us to a space in which one can connect with their past and future in order to envision what one’s present may look like. This collection is now available via Itermora.com.
