At the beginning of 2024 we announced that we are launching our new revamped Creator Grant initiative in partnership with For Africans By Africans, also known as FABA. We launched this grant to give a platform to aspiring photographer to share a visual representation of whatever Pan-Africanism means to them. We wanted creators to share portraits of everyday people in their daily lives — showcasing their unique perspectives on the identity, essence, diversity, lifestyles, and stories of the people in your community.
This grant was met with great enthusiasm by our Creator Photography community and we received over 50 entries. When we launched the Grant we also introduced a "voting" system where only entries with the most votes would be considered for the Grand Prize. After receiving feedback from our community we heard all their comments and complaints. At AMAKA we did what we do best - we listened to our community and changed the rules of the Grant. This meant that the winners were selected only based on the quality of their work as opposed to how many votes they got.
We are so excited to introduce you to the three recipients of the "Portraits" Grant :
Grand Prize Recipient : Aiesha Ijewere
Aiesha won $1000 for her work. You can have a look at the winning entry here.
Two Recipients also each received $250 for their incredible work
Akinola Adewumi received $250 for the work "Voodoo Festival".
Laitan King received $250 for the work "Fist and Odds"
Congratulations to all our Grant Recipients. Thank you for sharing your creativity with us.
