Nike FM Broadcast is a new talk show celebrating Black futures in sports and culture. Each episode features conversations with Black athletes, advocates and creators, with a mission to “inspire us to tap into the frequency of the future.”

AMAKA is proud to partner with Nike to amplify and expand these stories, beginning with episode four, which spotlights “Community Champions”— people making “micro-revolutions all over the world” and fostering tangible change within their communities.
“We become who we are in service to something greater than ourselves,” says social activist and Nike FM Broadcast host, Janaya Future Khan, as they conclude episode four’s discussion. Khan is joined by three guests who are actively working towards a greater future for their communities: cultural consultant and founder of TTYA London Irene Agbontaen, French basketball player and activist Diandra Tchatchouang, and Edson Sabajo, co-founder of the Dutch streetwear brand Patta. The community champions discuss the importance of furthering their impact beyond sports, supporting their communities, and collaborating with peers because, as they’ve all discovered through their respective endeavors, “we’re stronger together.”

Episode four centers on the idea that “learning is the key component in creating a culture of action,” and that “long-lasting change can be made on a global scale by engaging in small, tangible ways every single day.” The episode explores this and more with a focus on Black resilience, self-care and unity through sport.
To push the conversation further, AMAKA has collaborated with Nike to produce a collection of pieces that celebrate organisations and athletic figures on the continent and across the diaspora who are directly transforming sports culture, with a focus on the contributions of Black women. We speak with episode guests basketball player Diandra Tchatchouang and cultural consultant Irene Agbontaen about their respective journeys, legacy and forging new paths for people in their communities.
Previous episodes of FM Broadcast have delved into some of the most pressing issues impacting Black athletes and broader sports movements today, including Black and Asian solidarity, Black LGBTQIA voices and Black disruptors. Each episode highlights changemakers and cultural trailblazers who are, in the words of Diandra Tchatchouang, “more than athletes.”
Episode four concludes the first season of FM Broadcast, but it will return with a second season early next year. Join the conversation and stay tuned for more deep-dives into the evolving world of sports and activism.
