After Ghana and Portugal in 2019, Afro Nation will be making its debut on the beaches of Balneario de Carolina in Puerto Rico. This comes after the event was set for 2020 but became delayed due to COVID-19.
The stage welcomes acclaimed female artists such as Busiswa (South Africa), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Megan The Stallion (United States), Shenseea (Jamaica) and Patrice Roberts (Trinidad).
Talking of the line-up in an interview, Afro Nation organiser Obi Asika says: "There's a lot more female acts for Puerto Rico, and that is something that we have to check ourselves on a little bit to make sure. You just can't be lazy with it."
Afro Nation has become an important part of Black culture in the continent and the diaspora as a celebration of African musical heritage.
Whilst the festival focuses on Afrobeats and other genres from Africa, such as Amapiano and Afrohouse, Afro Nation also features hip hop, dancehall, R&B, and much more.
Asika continues: "Every festival we've done so far in different places, they all have their own feel. I think that this is going to be a really interesting one. We've literally got people coming from every part of America."
The festival will take place over three days, ending this Saturday.
