My name is Amina, and this is my story of how I overcame the limitations of my environment by turning things around.
In a country where unemployment was rampant, at 25, with the responsibility of catering for my ageing grandma.
I ventured into selling my creative skills like writing, and picture editing on Fiverr as I was so passionate about photography.
Having no one to support my aspiration of becoming a great photographer, I hoped that I could raise some funds on Fiverr to support my dreams.
Life wasn't easy as I felt like I was invisible and got no attention in the Freelancing world, I can remember the day we starved, my grandma almost died of hunger until I sold my old gadgets at a very cheap price just to make food for her as her tears of hunger pieced my soul.
it came to the extent my peers asked me “Amina, why are you this dull in this 21st, why can't you use what you have, to get what you want?”
The word dropped in my mind like a bomb, and I vowed that what I have is nothing else than creativity and I must use it to get what I want.
I went back to my Freelancing with confidence and I made over $230 but wasn't able to withdraw it after countless trials as PayPal wasn't working in my country Nigeria.
I quited again, but this time, I met with a popular artist in a show I went to where I was opportuned to take his picture and edited it for him.
He was in love with my work and we had a short conversation. He inspired me never to give up. I have a lot of potential in me.
He also gave me a link to Geegpay app which I used to withdraw my earnings to my local bank account.
Since then, I have been making consistent $500 monthly. And I learned to squeeze out lemonade from the lemon of responsibilities life threw at me.
