Beyoncé launched her highly anticipated new hair care line, Cécred, on February 20.
The eight-product launch includes the Clarifying Shampoo & Scalp Scrub, the Hydrating Shampoo, and the Moisturizing Deep Conditioner. For nurturing healthy hair and styling, the Foundation Collection also contains a Nourishing Hair Oil, a Moisture Sealing Lotion, a Reconstructing Treatment Mask, and a two-step Fermented Rice & Rose Protein Ritual.
Cécred users are encouraged to use the launch's Ritual Shaking Vessel to shake up the first step of the Rice & Rose Protein Ritual — a powder that turns into a hair treatment when mixed with water.
A press release noted that Cécred's goal in the hair care market is to offer "sensorial luxury and exceptional performance for visible strength, moisture and shine." The brand's uniqueness draws inspiration from "global" hair care traditions used for generations. Additionally, the scientific formulation for Cécred products includes "fortifying protein, patent-pending technology," as well as butters, oils, honey, and fermented rice water.
The Bioactive Keratin Ferment — Cécred's patent-pending technology — reportedly has a molecular weight small enough "to deeply penetrate" and strengthen hair strands. The brand claims that the formulation includes wool-derived keratin, honey, and a lactobacillus ferment.
The new Cécred products can be used on natural hair, weaves and wigs. A press release specified that "the inaugural collection is beneficial for hair textures from straight to coily, and hair states including virgin, color-treated, chemically processed, and heat-styled."
Beyoncé opened up about Cécred's roots as the cover star of Essence's March/April Beauty Issue. The Renaissance performer and globally celebrated 32-time Grammy winner — a mother of three married to Jay-Z — shared how influential it was to grow up in her mother's hair salon.
"I saw her shampooing and trimming hair, transforming women, leaving them feeling really good," said Beyoncé. "Looking back, it was more than just a hair appointment — it was therapy. I worked in her salon, sweeping the floors and helping out where I could. I used to eavesdrop and listen in on their conversations intently. It was a sacred space for these women. She was so good and so talented that eventually, her clientele outgrew her at-home salon. So that's when she opened her first hair salon, Headliners."
"It was in her salon that I realized my dreams of being a performer — inspired by one of her clients who happened to be an opera singer," the "16 Carriages" singer added.
