Miss USA 2019, Cheslie Kryst, was pronounced dead at the scene after she was believed to have jumped from a high-rise apartment building in New York.
According to witnesses, Kryst, who had the ninth-floor apartment in the 60-storey building, was last seen on the 29th floor’s terrace at around seven in the morning.
The family added that "Cheslie embodied love and served others, through her work as an attorney, as Miss USA or as a TV host for Extra, but most importantly, as a daughter, sister, friend, mentor and colleague.”
Kryst’s body was discovered on Sunday morning, and although the cause of her jump is still under investigation, it is suspected to have been suicide.
For World Mental Health Day in 2019, Kryst spoke out and described her routine for coping with stress: “I do a lot to make sure that I maintain my mental health,” she said, “and the most important thing that I did is talk to a counsellor. She’s really easy to talk to. She gives me great strategies especially if I’m sad or happy or have a busy month ahead of me.”
In a post on Instagram, leading up to her death, Kryst wrote: "May this day bring you rest and peace".
“Cheslie was not just a vital part of our show,” said the Extra TV show team in a statement, “she was a beloved part of our Extra family and touched the entire staff.”
