Award-winning Nigerian singer-songwriter Tiwa Savage continues to be the centre of internet attention after a 10-second intimate video of her and her partner was leaked online last Monday.
This comes weeks after the Afrobeats star disclosed that someone was trying to blackmail her with the tape.
While appearing on Power 105.1 radio in New York on 8th October, Savage said she was refusing to pay a blackmailer who was threatening to release the video.
According to Savage, the extorter received the clip shortly after her lover "accidentally" posted it on his Snapchat account. She claims he deleted it immediately, but it was too late - someone had already got hold of it.
"I decided I would not pay the person because if I do, two months from now, three months down the line, or even two years later, you are going to come back again", she said during the interview.
The iconic artist is currently making headlines with the song Somebody's Son featuring America's RnB sensation Brandy. In just one week, the video had surpassed 5 million views on YouTube.
But Ghanaian songstress Mzbel believes the tape was a stunt. In a series of Instagram posts, she claimed Savage paid the "highest sacrifice" to achieve international chart success with the Brandy song.
Another actress, Sonia Ogiri, also described it as "unacceptable behaviour" from Savage.
However, some celebrities are standing by her. Nollywood actress Amara Maduka has stated that those criticising Tiwa Savage are "hypocrites".
Nigerian actor Yul Edochie has also commended Tiwa Savage for her strength, saying that she has inspired many people going through blackmail.
Despite the saga, the 41-year-old mother of one remains unshaken. She was spotted dancing at the birthday party of Davido's son, Ifeanyi Junior, this Saturday.
