In a recent podcast interview, South Africa’s Podcast and Chill host MacG (Macgyver Mukwevho) asked American singer Ari Lennox, “And where are we at right now? Is someone f*****g you good right now?”
A visibly stunned and uncomfortable Lennox leaned into the camera and shouted, “Oh my God... that’s a wild question. Why ask it that way? Whoa.”
After the clip made waves on social media, Lennox, on Friday, addressed the situation in a string of (now-deleted tweets), saying, “Why weren’t parts of the interview destroyed like the team promised? Just because I happily and freely sing/write about sex doesn’t make any kind of creepy disrespect warranted. I clearly was in immense shock and hate that I didn’t react differently.”
She went on to say, “As for interviews, I’m not doing them anymore. There’s enough lives and interviews out there already.”
Responding to those who suggested she brought that on herself, the Pressure hitmaker replied, “Really got grown men justifying rape and predatory culture. Disgusting.” She also added, “South Africa! Y’all got it!!!... Heard you loud and clear. This won’t be a place I will ever visit.”
Responding to the issue, MacG says he will now “read the room”, before asking Lennox that question, “Here is an artist who glorifies her sexuality, so for me that was my entry. It’s not like I asked Oprah ‘Who you f*****g right now?’” He continued, “That’s distasteful. But those are lyrics from her own song. So I’m playing on that.”
MacG also claimed Lennox’s production team did not ask for the removal of that question after the recording.
