We're often told not to compare ourselves to others, but let's face it: it's tough, especially in the digital age. You hop on Instagram and see your friends upgrading their phones, buying homes, getting new cars, and graduating. Instantly, you wonder, "What am I doing with my life?" This reaction can either lead to self-pity or motivate us to work harder.
But if we reflect, we realize that we're living out our answered prayers. As I sit in my apartment, I know I haven't paused to appreciate that this was once my dream. Instead, I've been feeling frustrated because it feels like I'm taking forever to fill it up with furniture.
How many of us do that? We pray for something, receive it, then swiftly move on to the next request. It's like we're endlessly chasing some outlying state of happiness. But the journey, with all its seemingly minor accomplishments along the way, is where the absolute joy lies.
From now on, I strive to approach life with gratitude and awareness, acknowledging that the one who started the good work within me will come to completion. This doesn't mean I'll stop working towards my goals; I'll surrender fully to the one who ultimately controls the outcome.
Zechariah 4:10
Do not despise these small beginnings, for the LORD rejoices to see the work begin, to see the plumb line in Zerubbabel's hand."
