Stop Selling yourself short!
Stop Selling yourself short!
Stop Selling yourself short!
This cannot be overemphasized.
As a Writer and a Voiceover Artist, I remember my first steps in this content creation journey. I remember how I used to charge peanuts for my work, thinking:
“I’m just starting out now. What if I charge a lot?. They might go to another person?. What if…what if…”.
God. I remember one time in my 100 level first semester…I charged 2k for a 30 second Voicover in which I also wrote the script!.
The worst part??. The client stressed my life on top that one job that did not even pay well. But even though I hated the stress, I sucked it all up and still worked, because well, I’d brought it on myself.
I also remember the one time I charged just 5k for doing a creating a Brand Ad, doing a Voiceover and writing the Script!
When I also first started on Upwork, I put my Content Writing services at the lowest price, because, well, I read somewhere that if you’re just starting out, it’s best you set the price at the barest minimum. And so, in 2020, I did just that.
But you know what?. I’m tired of selling myself short. I’m tired of mistrusting myself and my abilities. I have grown!. Heck. I have grown to heights I never thought and I still keep growing!.
So instead of bringing the bar down, I am setting the standard for myself so that upcoming clients will know me for my worth. I will no longer sell my services at too low a price that I know is not fair to my work at all!.
Trust me, it is a self-growth process that takes time to let sink in. That imposter syndrome and fear of potential clients wakaing will probably always remain. But over time, my closest people have sung this mantra into my head until I’ve learnt to understand what self-worth is.
So…this is my own little message to you. Whatever your craft or service is, please always
