How high do you carry yourself as a person of colour ?

Being black is the gift our ancestors passed down to us. We are people of colour; it is who we are, it is what we do.

Although, the journey did not start well. From our ancestors as boss of themselves to being bound in chains and their freedom taken away from them to fighting for their rights and freedom to being boss of themselves again and passing on the legacy. That is "Black Power".

Black history was never been palatable neither is it music to the ears of us who have heard the story. Pictures of those days shows the gory past of black people in slavery, racism, segregation and oppression but as time went on, light emerged at the end of the dark tunnel; light of freedom and liberty, breaking out and progress.

We have evolved from being shadows of ourselves and others to being strong-willed people who are not afraid to go after what we want and achieve it despite our colour or hair type.

Being black makes us determined, intelligent, strong-willed, beautiful and unique in our own way, looking out for each other from Africans to African ( Black ) Americans to the blacks in the UK to other people of colour, even to the white community.

Being black is our strength and solace.

The cries of our forefathers when they were bound in chains , dragged and faced inhuman acts; the cries and prayers of our ancestors for their seed not to suffer same fate as they did has come to pass. Rather than suffering same fate, we have emerged stronger with lots of achievements around the globe.

I think they'd be smiling at us with joy in their hearts seeing how far we have come and how much we have achieved.

I am black and never ashamed of it, I will continue to carry my colour with pride wherever I go and spread the goodness that comes with it because that's my black power.

Let us carry on this legacy and proudly pass it on to our children that they may pass it to the unborn generations to come and achieve greater things.
