There is never an easy way to start something. But there's a trick to, and that's starting.
In 2022, when I debuted into creative writing, with no guidance whatsoever and dreams of writing a short story like the ones those few writers I looked up to for months did, I was 17 and scared.
But I wrote a story.
Before it was published, I was messaged by the chief-editor on Facebook, who was impressed with my "high fantasy story" and asked for my previous ones.
But I had none. This was a first.
My second would name me Writer of the Month of a magazine every writer I knew wanted to be featured in (Brittle Paper). I would be published twice. My fourth would win a drabble contest and push me once again, to the congratulatory spotlight. My sixth publication, my debut poem, would also win a prize.
I was proud to show my dad my first story, and the second, and the third, saying each time, "here's what your daughter created. Here is something I am proud of".
My journey as a writer has taught me to always believe in myself and in my capacities, even when, many times, people fail to.
It is with this mindset that I tackle everything I approach. People's doubt should never be the fuel to your self-doubt.
