I and Tamibé Bourdanne recently began an ongoing collaboration titled 'My Coy Lover; Lagos edition'. Lagos is a city of contrasts, where opulence and simplicity coexist, and tradition blends with modernity. This juxtaposition creates a unique tension that fuels artistic expression and adds a layer of complexity to the city’s romantic atmosphere.
Some of these shots were also intended to raise conversations around power in femininity across the city of Lagos. We thought to create a story that depicts Lagosian women as territorial individuals in style, posing against the 3rd Mainland Bridge that leads to Lagos Island. The impact of Lagosian women is often overlooked and undermined whether it's in politics, culture or even in the health sector. The idea behind these images is to break the construct that has been developed by society to fit women in designated positions when they in fact occupy several leading positions in the nation.
