After months of anticipation, Young Legend has announced its first signing: King Vidarr. Born Momoh Oshiotseameh Luke in Edo State, Nigeria, and raised in Ikorodu, Lagos, King Vidarr was inspired musically by his grandmother, who has been instrumental in his journey as an artist. Her diverse musical taste ranged from iconic African voices like Yvonne Chaka Chaka to global boy bands like Westlife and Backstreet Boys, leaving a lasting impression on him.
This early exposure to various music genres became evident when King Vidarr began making his own music. With so many influences, he is a talent poised to break new ground within the African music scene and the diaspora, unconfined by creative limits or genre boundaries.
Vidarr's journey started humbly, making a name for himself behind the scenes by writing for other artists. His selflessness demonstrated his dedication to his craft and showed his willingness to patiently await his turn. His songwriting credits span multiple artists, including Joeboy, Reekado Banks, Ric Hassani, and Laycon. His pen has contributed to the success of songs like "Adenuga," "Duffel Bag," and "Bioba," all benefiting from his lyrical versatility. His work has made him one of the most sought-after songwriters in the Afrobeats genre, with some calling him one of the genre's hidden gems.
Already recognized for his versatility and storytelling ability, King Vidarr is now stepping into the spotlight as the flagship artist for Joeboy's label, Young Legend. This signing marks a significant milestone, as Vidarr recently released his debut EP under the label.
His self-titled EP, released on November 1, 2024, features four songs, each telling a unique story and showcasing a different sound. The EP includes tracks such as “Tomford,” “Oshe,” “Yawa,” and “Want You Gone,” with a total runtime of 10 minutes and 23 seconds, offering fans substantial replay value.
Speaking to Deola Jaiyesimi, Head of Label at Young Legend, he shared their vision for the future: “At Young Legend, we are not just building careers; we are building a legacy.” Jaiyesimi explained that they wanted to create a nurturing environment for Vidarr’s talent and help him grow. “Our goal is to provide a home for artists like Vidarr, who embody the spirit of African music and are ready to carry the baton for the next generation,” he added.
With the support of Young Legend and Warner Music Africa, King Vidarr is poised to make a global impact with his current project and future releases. His signing to Young Legend signals the beginning of a new era in African music.
