As Cape Town begins to warm up and we gear up for December, the music we listen to mirrors that party feeling. Echoing this vibe is Tymicah and Luke Goliath's latest release, "Come Find Me" – the perfect summer soundtrack.
Taking just a week to create, "Come Find Me" is slowly gaining momentum on the radio charts in South Africa. The rise of "Come Find Me" shows that house music is well and truly alive. Tymicah is thrilled to finally share her latest collaboration with Luke Goliath with the world. “I’m so happy to be able to share it with the world. This was possibly the easiest song I’ve worked on – maybe took a week or so from start to finish – because it felt like the song wrote itself. So it’s kind of like it always wanted to exist, and the listeners are the ones who help me to understand the mystery of why that is through their interpretation of the song.”
Creating the song came effortlessly, and Tymicah shares what her highlight was during the creative process: the launch event. “Probably the launch event. It just went so hard. It’s rare to have that much fun,” she shares. Being able to connect with her fans through her music is something Tymicah will never take for granted as she continues to cement herself in the South African music scene with each new release.
The song was inspired by love and nostalgia. After receiving the beat from Luke, Tymicah instantly knew what the song would become. Talking us through the inspiration, Tymicah says, “When Luke initially sent me the beat, I remember feeling this wave of nostalgia wash over me. I felt like I was lying listlessly on the waves of my own memory. It made me think of meeting the right person at the wrong time, but passively knowing that when the right time comes, they will come find you.”
As a house music fanatic, Tymicah speaks about her vision for "Come Find Me" and believes the song has the potential to go all the way and become a classic, even if it takes time. “I’m a house music fiend, so I know the skin and bones of a hit house song – and I’ve always known that ‘Come Find Me’ has that magic. So I am fully confident that the song has the potential to go all the way, even if not right now.”
"Come Find Me" is just the beginning of Tymicah's upcoming collaborations. Working with Luke was nothing short of amazing, and Tymicah shares her thoughts on the collaboration as well as what other projects are in the works. “Luke’s a lovely man. We both don’t take ourselves very seriously, but we’re serious about music, so it was really fun. I’m currently working on a collaboration with Chanté – another incredible Cape Town-based singer/songwriter. Look out for this!”
Reflecting on her career so far, Tymicah shares what she hopes to achieve with her platform moving forward. “I just want to perform for people across the world and to inspire my listeners to get more in touch with their emotions. I love sensitive people and I love feelings, so if I can bring them closer to themselves, I’m happy.”
Operating in a male-dominated industry, Tymicah offers advice to fellow female artists looking to break barriers. “I think I’d just encourage them to back themselves. There’s a temptation to wait for men to approve of what you do before you think it’s cool, or at least it has been for me. Don’t do that. It doesn’t serve you or anyone.”
Looking toward the future, Tymicah shares her plans. “I just want to keep building the community that supports the music I make, and become a significant contributor to the South African music scene,” she says, beaming.
When asked about whether she will experiment with her sound going forward, Tymicah gives insight into what fans can expect. “For now, I’m mostly focusing on house, but I’m experimenting as well with drum and bass and RNB.”
Luke also shares his experience working on "Come Find Me" with Tymicah. “It was really cool. It had also been a while since I had worked on a record with a girl,” he says, reflecting on their collaboration.
Similarly to Tymicah, Luke’s highlight was the launch of the song. He recalls the excitement of seeing people’s reactions, especially since the song was released unexpectedly. “The launch event at LA Lounge was definitely my favourite. Getting to perform the song live with Ty, and then also just seeing how people responded to the record, was crazy – especially because we just dropped the record.”
Speaking about his future endeavors, Luke shares what his fans can expect in the coming year. “Maybe a Grammy nomination, who knows? This wouldn’t be as an artist but for my production work,” he says as the interview draws to a close.
Music is all about inspiration and sharing that creative experience with others. As we end our interview, Luke shares where he draws his inspiration from. “I gather inspiration from everything – memories, smells, what the day looks like. It’s weird, but I’m usually just trying to create soundtracks for these things.”
In conclusion, Luke leaves his fans with a message of hope. “Pursuing success isn’t linear, it’s chaotic, it’s erratic. You’ll want to give up at times. Regardless, show up, especially if you love what you’re chasing. You need to be crazy; any rational human being would quit when it gets hard, but when you don’t, that’s when you win. Fail fast, pivot quicker, triple down when the moment comes.”
