Damien is in the empty classroom, rifling through Bianca's bag. His classmates have gone out for recess, and his side kicker, Lekan, is keeping watch for him by the door.
"Hurry up now, Damien. Everyone would soon be on their way to class."
"Hold on, I'm still searching for it." He sees the book he's looking for and smiles triumphantly, "I got it." Raising it up for Lekan to see, "This is the diary I told you about."
Lekan excitedly leaves his post and urges Damien to let them leave for the library. "Let's go and check it out at the library before someone sees us in class."
They exit the classroom with the pink diary tucked underneath Damien's armpit.
They arrive at the library and read through the diary together. Lekan hisses in disgust, "This is just irritating; I don't want to read it anymore. I feel like I would puke with all the dirty stuff I just read. This surely solves the mystery of why Bianca and Hannah's friendship is so strong. Who would have ever thought something like that was going on between them?"
"I told you there was something else to it. They are almost always together, and if not, they are never far apart."
Lekan nods in agreement. It has become the norm for him to agree with whatever Damien says, even if it's not the truth. "You are right; you definitely said it. Let's just go and return the diary inside her bag before she discovers it's missing."
"Who's going to return it? Me? Nah. I am going to do the exact same thing she did to me."
"Damien, please don't go there. That's just childish and way too vindictive. I hope you know the principal would ask how you came across it. You surely can't admit to taking it out of her bag."
"Maybe you don't know, but vindictive is my middle name. I'm not giving it directly to the principal; I would slide it under her door before she arrives tomorrow."
"Just don't get caught doing it. I just wish you would let bygones be bygones. We just resumed our suspension; let's not push it again."
"You are free to chicken out if you want; I'm doing this myself."
Their friends, Kayode and Adams, walk into the library and see Damien and Lekan.
Kayode turns to Adams and says, "I told you we would find them here. They always make themselves scarce and come to the library to avoid classes almost all the time."
Adams smiles. "You are both very bad boys. Whats up guys? They all exchanged greetings.
Lekan snaps at Adams, "Nothing you need to know."
"They both need to know; at least I can show them that I could have had Bianca and won the bet if not because she doesn't do males." Damien says, smiling triumphantly.
"Get out of here. We know you don't want to make good on the debt, but that story is absolutely ridiculous." Kayode shakes his head to show that he isn't buying it.
"I don't believe it either. How can you say a fine girl isn't interested in males?" Adams disbelieving exchanges glances with Kayode.
"Why don't you just see for yourself if you don't believe me?" He places the diary on the table for Kayode and Adams to read amidst Lekan's protest.
Kayode and Adams read the diary together, and they keep looking up at Damien, periodically in shock.
Lekan snatches the diary from them and says, "That's enough. You have read enough."
Adams smiles at Damien, ignoring Lekan's outburst. "What are you going to do about it? Personally, I believe she deserves to be embarrassed for what she did to you."
"You get my point, Adams. I have a few ideas, but the top among them is to drop the diary at the principal's office."
Kayode nods his head in agreement. "That's very good; you won't be held accountable for anything that happens as long as you are not caught doing it."
"Do you need any help in getting it done?" Adams asks, looking expectantly at Damien.
"Before I tell you what the plan is, I need to know if we are all in."
Kayode and Adams reply in the affirmative.
Damein turns to Lekan, who's wearing a frown on his face. "How about you?"
"How about me, what?"
"Are you in or out?"
Lekan stands up noisily from his seat, earning a reprimanding gaze from the librarian. "Count me out; I won't be a party to this nonsense. I just resumed school after my suspension. Even a goat can't be that stubborn and stupid. I'm out of here." He hisses and walks out noisily.
"It's good riddance to bad rubbish." Damien calls out after him. He turns to face Kayode and Adams and says, "Come closer, boys; you know we are in the library, and I can't speak freely."
The three of them bow their heads together and begin to plot the execution of the assignment at hand.
