"They want your head, bro."
Davies said to his best friend, Will in the underground room he had been hiding, matter of factly.
"My head?"
Will asked in alarm, his eyes darting left and right restlessly.
"Calm down, bro. I only meant that literally. What do you think they are? A gang?"
The statement did little to reassure him, he knew Chloe's brothers didn't belong to any gang, but it still didn't make him feel better. They had a reputation for ruthlessness and they didn't earn it lightly. People didn't even need to ask for proof, the neighborhood saw most of it firsthand.
"It still doesn't change anything, I'm done for. I wish I never met Chloe, she has always been bad news."
He said regrettably, shaking his head.
"You should have thought of that before going to bed with her."
Contrary to what Davies thought, Will did think that night that she was grinding on him non-stop at the club, only it wasn't with his head, it was with the tool in between his legs that most men have no control of.
"How would you like to come back to my place to continue this?"
Chloe had asked him that night further rubbing her body against his.
"I don't know, what about your brothers?"
He had asked half-heartedly, the idea was already sold to him and even lions running straight out from the wildlife wouldn't have stopped him.
"Who cares? They are out of town for some business I don't know and don't care about."
She replied, chewing gum loudly and turning around to face him. She stopped dancing and put her hands on his neck, turning to face him and pressing everything feminine in her against him.
"Dear lord!"
He took a deep breath and tried to act calm, God knows he was losing his mind already. Chloe was endowed, her feminine assets could have been conveniently distributed among 3 girls with no complaints whatsoever on anyone not getting enough.
"What do you say, Will?"
She asked again, breathing hotly against his neck.
He could already picture himself in her room doing so many things to her and thankfully her brothers weren't around. As long as he was done with her before they returned to town, he would be safe.
Everyone in the neighborhood knows that Chloe is a party girl, through and through, and she goes through men like underwear. The little respect she had was because of her brothers, all she had to do was point an accusing finger at any man that hurt her feelings and they would swing into action and set the unfortunate victim straight.
What was the fuss about her brothers anyway? Okay, if truth be told, all four of her older brothers were tall and heavily built. They co-owned a gym and everyone knew they worked out every day as their life depended on it, talk about a formidable squad.
They didn't mind their sister having fun and dating anyone, they only had one unspoken rule, Chloe had to be the one to break up with you, or else, the price would be steep. Anyone was welcome as long as Chloe liked you and you stayed around until she got bored and moved on. She was the baby of the house, and her word was law.
One would think that was enough to scare the boys away, but some have been known to think the reward would outweigh the risk, and they had learned the hard way. Will, sadly was about to be one of them.
Pushing common sense out and kicking it in the butt, he followed Chloe home and he had a very beautiful night.
"You see, I'm going to college soon, and I won't be around much longer."
He had told her the morning after, in a bid to let her down gently.
"I'll wait, I don't care."
"You are too beautiful to be made to wait for someone like me, the future is uncertain."
After a lot of back and forth, he was able to convince her to move on with her life, he would come back for her after he graduated college, he eventually said when she still didn't want to let go.
"If only those arrogant, little boys had a mentor like me, Chloe who? she's history."
He bragged to Davies a few days later.
"I still don't envy you, I sincerely hope I won't have to say, "I told you so" when everything gets messy. Man, I wish I could purchase audacity like yours, her brothers give me bad dreams."
Will was about to reply, when Tania, his girlfriend arrived. She was a redhead with long, bouncy hair, endowed with physical features that were slim and graceful and Will's face lit up upon her arrival.
She had been his girlfriend since childhood, and it went without saying, they were going to end up together. Theirs was the childhood kind of love that never got stale, no matter what.
Will had cheated on her a few times, but he always justified it with the fact that Tania was for keeps and no matter how far he wandered, he would always return to her.
"Hi babe. Hello, Davies."
She greeted them and took a seat next to Will under the mango tree they were seated under in front of Will's parent's house.
Will left them shortly after, taking his cue to leave after they were wrapped in each other's arms.
"I'm pregnant, Will."
Chloe moaned over the phone.
Will felt like he had been sucker punched and he felt the air rush out of his lungs. It's got to be a joke, right? Will thought to himself, pregnancy had always been a vague notion to him until now.
"I wish it was, but I just confirmed it today, I'm pregnant with our baby."
She declared with a hint of excitement.
"I'm too young to be a father, I leave for college soon, this can't be happening."
"Oh, but it has, you are not too young to be a father and a husband as long as you are intentional about it."
"Back up, husband or what did you say?"
"Yes, I'm not going to be a baby mama if that's what you are thinking, we could have a simple ceremony if you like."
Chloe was a bimbo like he heard, she was only 18 and was ready to be married with no game plan for the future.
"I'm sorry, I cannot marry you, I'm just 19. I can't take care of myself yet, much less a wife and a child."
The conversation turned unfriendly quickly and they threatened each other before dropping the call.
Chloe's brothers sent emissaries to show Will the error of his ways and it wasn't funny. He had to show up and take responsibility for his actions like like a real man and make an honest woman out of Chloe or face the music.
He packed a few of his stuff and fled to Davies's house for some time. He was there for days, hiding out in the underground floor of his best friend's house.
He was there for days while the news spread around town like wildfire, he had put Chloe in the family's way. Every parent felt pity for him, he was caught In a pickle and Chloe's brothers weren't known to forgive.
After careful deliberation the previous night, Davies had agreed to take a proposition to Chloe's brothers. Will made it clear that he was going to be responsible for his child as soon as he found his footing, but he didn't want to marry Chloe.
It took the grace of God for Davies to leave the house in one piece, they weren't willing to compromise, and Will had to marry her.
"I did what you asked, I told them your stand, and they aren't happy with it. I'm sorry, bro, you have got yourself in a bit of a pickle there."
The knock on the door sent them both jumping up.
"Who's there?"
Davies finally managed to ask after regaining his confidence, Will was already hidng at the bank of a chair.
"It's Tania, Davies."
Heaving a sigh of relief, he opens the door and she steps in, eyes red and face swollen from tears.
"Where's that bastard?"
She asked as soon as she stepped in.
"I'm here, babe."
Will calls and walks up to her, smiling.
"is it true?"
"is what true?"
He asked, a perfectly innocent look on his face.
"That you are responsible for Chloe's pregnancy. it's everywhere."
"I'm not sure, I am, we only....."
Twang!
Her right palm connects with his cheek in a flash, leaving a red imprint of five fingers.
"How could you?"
She asked, slumping into a seat.
"I can explain. Just hear me out."
Davies watched in silence, Will was a smooth talker, but there was no talking his way out of this one. He was in a jam!
