Egyptian-Moroccan rapper Perrie El Hariri, who goes by the stage name “Perrie”, kicked off Women’s Month with her latest release El-Sa3a 9 (9 o’clock).
El-Sa3a 9 was followed by an announcement of her joining Spotify’s global programme, EQUAL Arabia, as their first ambassador.
EQUAL aims to amplify the work of women creators by giving them international recognition. The North African rapper is hailed as “Egypt’s rap royalty” by scenenoise,
It is Spotify’s second initiative in the region of North Africa and West Asia, preceded by 2020’s Sawtik, which celebrated emerging Arab women creators.
“I’m thrilled to be the first EQUAL Arabia ambassador of the month and couldn’t have picked a better month to release my song ‘El-Sa3a 9’”, said Perrie in a statement.
“It’s amazing to be a part of this program that is dedicated to giving us global exposure and recognizing our contributions to the music industry”, she continued.
Perrie has long been an advocate of women artists, encouraging young musicians to break boundaries and uplift each other in the music industry.
According to a scenenoise campaign, in honour of Women’s Day, women only make 21% of artists, 12% of writers and 2% of producers in the charts.
Each month, EQUAL Arabia will spotlight a female ambassador from the Arab world to highlight their new music releases.
