“Ife!” Patrick’s panicked voice called to her from her screen. He looked at her worriedly but she just smiled to ease out the tension she’s feeling.
“It’s okay Patrick, I am fine. See” she hung her hand in the air so her phone camera can capture her body then she put the phone to her side and showed him her legs. “I’m perfectly fine Patrick. Thank GOD I wasn’t in there when the thing fell”
Patrick released a sigh of relief. “I am glad too, did you talk to the manager yet?”
“Yes, they are paying for damages” Ife looked around and lowered her voice “They even said they would pay anything if I don’t press charges” “Really? Were you planning to press charges?” his brows were furrowed.
“Nope, but according to what I heard, the sign has been reported before to be taken down but the manager refused to listen and thank GOD no causalities aside that I have to pay the rental company for the damage”
Patrick shrugged. “That’s kuku not your problem, shey dey said they would pay?” Ife nods, a smile on her lips. “Leave them to handle their problem, just follow through the process, that’s all”
“Thank you, my amazing man, you have ways to make me happy” she giggled.
“I do my best to make sure I give you the best, you’re my bet and only woman” he winked at her.
“Nice and careful choice of words” she comments.
“Where are you headed now?”
“Food, I’m hungry”
“Get something to eat and we’ll chat later, I can’t wait to read your letter” he said in a lowered tone.
Ife felt her cheeks burn and looked around to be sure no one is seeing the mumu smile on her lips.
‘What love can do to a person’ she thought.
“Get something to eat, I just wired you a token to eat something, take care of this baby girl for me till we see again”
Ife blew a kiss to the screen and he captured it and did like it blew him away. She giggled and he chuckled.
“I love you so much Patrick”
“I love you even more Ifeoluwa,”
They stared at each other, not moving, just had huge goofy smiles on their faces. Patrick winked at her and she bit her bottom lip to stop the huge grin.
“I don’t want us to facetime or call or text each other, I want us to continue to use handwritten letters to communicate with each other” Patrick suggested. Ife wanted to protest but he stopped her. “On Valentine’s Day we can see each other and it would be worth the wait.”
Ife pouted and frowned. “But, it would be hard. I would miss seeing your face for days” she complained.
“But it would be worth the wait,” he reminded her.
She let out a sigh, still pouting and feigning annoyance.
“You know you’re the only one with my mumu button”
“I hold it dearly in my heart and would cherish it forever.” He winked.
Ife nods her head. “Let’s take a selfie before we get off the call”
Ife pouted and Patrick copied her for the first selfie. The second they made silly faces, third was about them laughing so hard.
“I’ll use this to hold body” she told him, he winked at her again and she looked away like she was doing shakara.
“Send me the pictures too” he told her.
“Shey you’re the one that said no other contact aside handwritten letter, this is a taste of your medicine. Bye” she didn’t wait for him to say anything and disconnected the call.
She giggled as she imagined Patrick’s face right now and how he would have told her he would get back at her. She felt sad that she wouldn’t see his face till they facetime on Valentine’s Day.
“I hope I can sha get through this” she walked to the bus stop where she can take a bus to work so she can close for the day and head out for late lunch and early dinner.
