Patrick’s POV
I looked at Angela who’s sleeping on the couch with the blanket over her body.
I am still in shock. I don’t know if I can get off the shock sef.
How is that possible? If I had any cold blood towards her, I would have said it served her right because she’s one crazy-evil little woman but knowing that she’s battling with leukemia shook me to the bones and I can’t even think of what she’s feeling.
Coupled with work and sending letters to Ife, taking care of her hasn’t been easy. I didn’t even tell Ife about Angela’s condition. It feels too real to be true. I was hoping she was lying and it was one of her ‘attention-seeking’ tactics but it isn’t. When she showed me the medical result saying she’s diagnosed with that deadly disease, it broke my heart.
Yemi urged me to tell Ife but I don’t know why I don’t want to. Not like I can’t tell her now but I would, just not now.
I mixed the tea I prepared for myself and sat on the stool in the kitchen. Watching her.
I have been taking her to chemo for the past days and she begged me to stay at her place because she feels alone but I didn’t want that, so I offered for her to stay at my place till I can contact her family to come stay with her.
She was reluctant about giving me the current numbers of her family but I was able to get it out of her because I didn’t want her staying with me long.
Valentine is around the corner. In a few days and I don’t want to bring Ife to meet Angela at my place. I don’t want any more trouble for us.
I looked away from her and checked the text I got from my secretary. I will get some work done and come back to check if she’s awake so I can take her for her evening session with her doctor.
I didn’t bother studying anything about what’s wrong with her. I don’t care if it’s insensitive but I don’t want to be attached to her anyway and she wouldn’t miss an opportunity to get close to me if I let her.
I stood up and walked to my room to get some work done.
Angela’s POV
As soon as I heard him leave the living room, I sat up and checked the way he went in to be sure he really left. I stood up and stretched by body. Omo, laying down in a particular position is really tiring and my bones feels attacked.
I just want the pains to go away. Just like I want the leukemia to leave.
When I found out I had cancer, it was heartbreaking for me. It was just…
I wished it didn’t happen to me. It’s painful and stressful and before I start losing my hair and looking sickly, I want to use that as an avenue to get Patrick back to me. I know he’s a softie and he’ll do anything to protect people he cares about.
We dated for long and I know he can’t just forget about me and all the memories we shared. I will get him back, call me crazy… well, he thinks I am but I will use that craziness to get him back to myself and away from that leech Ife.
“Imagine the stupid thing they are doing” I muttered to myself when I brought of the recent letter Ife sent. Very stupid people.
I wonder how these people love sef. They say love makes you do stupid things, well not something this stupid as sending handwritten letters like we are in the 80s’. stupid ideas and I am sure it’s that fine-girl wannbe Ife that orchestrated this stupid idea. Mtcheew.
“She’s not even as fine and well packaged as I am” I laughed.
I opened the letter once more and tore it this time around. I want to gag, just reading the nonsense she’s sending to my baby. After tearing it to pieces, I opened the letter I wrote for Ife. I wrote it in a way that she’ll think it’s from Patrick.
I smiled when I read the letter over and over again. My phone beeped and I went outside to meet with another post office guy I heavily paid to send this letter for me. I told him to hijack any further letter from Ife before the man Yemi hired could see it, so Patrick doesn’t get any more letter from Ife and they can separate finally.
“Make sure you don’t make any mistakes, it is important that you send this, okay?” I handed him some money and he smiled at me then handed me the box of pizza I asked him to bring.
It’s my strategy in case Patrick sees me go outside.
“Thank you, madam, bye”
I rolled my eyes and walked back to the house with the pizza in hand. When I entered, Patrick was standing by the couch I was laying moments ago.
“I went to get the pizza I ordered” I smiled.
He frowned when he looked at me. His eyes went to the box I was holding and I opened it for him to see.
“That’s a quick time to have pizza delivered to you” he comments and walked to the kitchen.
“Well, I will be giving them a good review then” I laughed nervously, glad that he believed me. I followed him to the kitchen and placed the pizza box on the counter then opened it again. “Want some?” he raised an eyebrow.
He thinks I put something in it. Silly boy ‘don’t worry, soon’
I took a slice and ate out of it. He shook his head and grabbed the one I ate from, cut out the side I ate and ate it. My lips curved in a smile and I took another then ate it as I looked at him. He’s warming up to me.
“Want to take this one I’m eating?” I winked at him, not taking off the grin from my lips. He glared at me and dropped the pizza he was eating then walked to the living room.
“Don’t push it” he grunted as he went past me.
I was happy with this little improvement. Soon, he wouldn’t be able to resist me and would come begging for me to come to him.
