Growing up in Mbazwana , a small town in northern KwaZulu-Natal, I always had a passion for music. I would sing along to the radio, write my own songs and dream of becoming a popstar. Music was my escape from the hardships of life, and I wanted to share it with the world.
But as I grew older, I faced many challenges and obstacles that made me doubt myself and my abilities. I struggled to find opportunities to showcase my talent, to get recognition and support from the industry and to make a living from my passion. I felt like giving up on my dreams as I was approaching my 30’s, thinking that it was too late for me to make it.
That’s when I discovered Lwah Ndlunkulu, a singer and songwriter who hails from the same district as me.Lwah's rise to fame started when she relocated to Gauteng and began working at a radio station and a club. It was during this time that she caught the attention of music producer Celza, leading her to sign a record deal with Nkabi Records. Her debut on Big Zulu's single "Umuzi eSandton '' became a massive hit, reaching number 1 in South Africa.
Taking her success a step further, Lwah appeared on the joint album of Nkabi Records, "Inkabi Nation," alongside other talented artists. However, it was her breakthrough single, "Ithuba," featuring Siya Ntuli, that catapulted her to global prominence. The song achieved platinum certification and solidified Lwah's position in the music industry.
With each release, Lwah's popularity continues to grow. Her track, "Ngiyeza," reached top positions on various music charts within the first week of its release and achieved platinum status. This success has led to Lwah being nominated in four categories at the prestigious 2023 Basadi in Music Awards.
Looking towards the future, Lwah announced her upcoming studio album, "Imizwa," set to be released on November 24, 2023. Her journey serves as a beacon of hope for aspiring artists from humble backgrounds, proving that dreams can come true regardless of where one comes from.
Lwah Ndlunkulu's inspiring story resonates deeply with mine and others who share similar dreams. Her success gives me the motivation to keep pushing forward and never give up on my own aspirations.
