Hi everyone, My name is Amaka, I am born into the family of six (6) females and no male....we had male but died at the infant, so we became six (6) females. My dad was the only surviving son of his father, with one of my grand father's house keep. My dad has so many inheritance from his dad plus the ones inherited from his dead brother who died at the early age without wife nor children. My grandfather's home keep was instructed to keep everything inherited most especially the landed property till my dad grows up to then he can hand him over everything. But this home keep man has sons and for years over thirty (30) years has kept what belongs to my dad to him and his male children denying my family of their right. He and other village members collected everything that belongs to my dad and advise him not to try getting anything for us or build anything for us because we are all females and even go ahead calling us useless and worthless children.
So I and my siblings including my mum has no home, we all lived in rented apartment and pays rent from years to years, and my dad still living with us and at a certain point my dad lost his job and was afflicted, so I and my siblings started catering for the family, sponsor ourselves to the higher institutions, pay bills and the rest. As God may have it, two of my siblings got married. My younger sister got married and her husband who is now my brother in law sees to our pain and come to our rescue by acting as the family lawyer. It got to a certain point that I and my siblings decided to get what belongs to us before my dad would die and leave nothing for us, in that decision, we decided to go to fight and get all that belongs to my father without remaining any one in the hand of that devilish man, In this scenario, my brother in-law acted as the family lawyer and was speaking on our behalf and they never knew he was my brother in-law until a certain point before they could recognize that and we have gone half way. He was always present at the meeting every time the villagers including my grand father's home keep fix a date for meeting. He never misses that, he swore to go for us, be with us till we recover all. And boom, the battle started, the process of recovery began and it took two (2) years to recover half of the property as my brother in-law acted as the lawyer to the family. It happened that this man (house keep/care taker) was not related to my dad but my dad misquote him as his brother and with that title, he was claiming ownership of the properties even going ahead to build on our lands and sharing/dividing others to his children and wife while we were left with nothing. But God stood by us.
The incidence was brought to the knowledge of the Igwe and the elders of the village. Part of the land was discovered to be an oil well land where they discovered oil pipe and this man knowing fully well, but out of jealousy decided to keep everything to himself without being care if I and my family are okay.(But GOD PASS MAN) .Later on, we (my family) decided to sell part of the land close to where they found the oil well to another family in other to raise money to start our own building while we wait till this care taker releases everything to us. But he went as far again in reporting my family to the Igwe by saying that we were not supposed to talk of selling any land for now till the whole issue is resolved, but I told my family that since we and this caretaker are not bloodily related, he has no right whatsoever to tell us what we should do and what not to do, that we have everything right to do as we are pleased. But the man in question that wants to buy the land has not made any payment yet, we are still waiting for him to make his payment.
So the Igwe has fixed a date with my family and the caretaker to release all the remaining property to us.
When that is done I would come back and finish up my story.
Thank you.
The dangers of the tradition:
1. We were afflicted
2. We were denied of our right and suffered a lot
3. Homeless
4. Poverty (yes the whole incidence caused us to be poor, helpless)
My advise Every child is special and created by God, so such should be denied their right because they are all females, please let that stop henceforth if it is with my power.
