I saw a tweet the other day that said, “Gen Zs are lazy,” and I genuinely wanted to scream. I saw red. How do people confidently spread this kind of misinformation?
Of course, there are lazy Gen Zs, the ones chasing outrageous get-rich-quick schemes or trying to cut corners without putting in the work. Every generation has its fair share of them. But that doesn’t define the majority. The average Gen Z is out here grinding - studying, working multiple jobs, freelancing, and running businesses - all while dealing with an economy that barely gives them a fighting chance. Yet, somehow, they’re still labeled as lazy? Make it make sense.
Let’s talk about what’s actually unfair. Companies still want to pay Gen Zs the same amount they paid a decade ago, wages that can’t even cover basic expenses today. They have to take extra side jobs to be able to afford an average lifestyle.
These people know their worth, and they’re not about to waste time on jobs that underpay and overwork them. And can you blame them? If creating content on TikTok or Instagram brings in more money than a draining 9-5, why wouldn’t they choose that instead?
Respect Boundaries 👍🏿
Gen Zs respect professionalism. Stick to the time, If a job is 9-5, then it should actually be 9-5. One extra hour? They’ll raise brows. Two? They might walk out.
And no, it’s not because they’re entitled, it’s because they know life is more than just slaving away at a job. Unlike older generations who romanticized suffering in the workplace, they value their time, mental health, and personal life. They don’t see overworking as a flex, it’s a red flag.
The Job Market Sets Them Up for Failure, Then Calls Them Lazy 🤦🏿♀️
Let’s also address the ridiculous job market. How is an entry-level role asking for three years of experience? How is someone supposed to gain experience if nobody will hire them?
Gen Zs are willing to work, but the system keeps setting them up for failure. And when they refuse to settle for these unrealistic expectations, suddenly they’re “lazy” or “unserious.” The irony is extremely loud if I dare add.
Gen Zs are Not Rude🙅🏿♀️
Rude?? They’re just opinionated. They ask questions, challenge outdated systems, and refuse to believe in blindly following orders.
The Truth❓
The truth is, Gen Zs are far from lazy. Most of them are juggling two or more jobs, constantly looking for better opportunities, and still finding ways to build something creative on the side. They’re resourceful, hardworking, and unwilling to settle for less.
So, let’s kill this lazy narrative. If anything, Gen Zs just refusing to play by outdated, exploitative rules and honestly? That’s exactly what the world needs.
