Day 2 began with a Fashion Business Series Session titled “Building a Resilient Fashion Ecosystem: A NG-NL Exchange Programme for Circular Fashion” moderated by Stephanie Schuitemaker.
The panel featured remarks from Deputy Consul-General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Lagos, Mr Peter Keulers; MD Lagos State Waste Management Authority, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin; Special Advisor SDGs to the Lagos State Governor, Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih; Executive Director Circular Economy Innovation Partnership, Natalie Beinisch; Founder & CEO, Mateen Lander Limited, Sidikat Folami; Head of Sustainability & ESG Circular Economy Department of Lagos State Waste Management Authority, Mudrakat Alabi-Macfoy; Founder Afthonia, Yomi Odutola, and Dr. Adebola Odunsi from The Office of the Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Climate Change and Circular Economy.
Mr Keulers emphasised The Netherlands’ commitment to the circular economy and its ambitions to become 100% circular by 2050. In the same spirit, Dr. Gbadegesin highlighted the importance of creating a more circular economy particularly within the fashion sector pointing to the textile waste as the largest contributor of waste in Lagos State. To combat this, he announced a ban on textile waste which will be implemented in the coming months.
By the end of the session and immersive workshop session, attendees were left with two burning questions: “What do we define as waste? How do we create a sustainable circular future?”.
The highly-anticipated 2024 runway shows kicked off with Imad Eduso’s vibrant pieces quickly followed by Maliko’s thoughtfully crafted footwear collection. Also taking to the runway were LagosFW XRetail designers: For Style Sake (FSS), Ibiola Ogundipe, and M.O.T as well as Dust of Earth, Bornstar Nigeria, NYA, Pettre Taylor, Kente Gentleman, Refuse Clothing Brand, LFJ, Ajabeng, and Oshobor.
