It was only a few minutes past noon, but it was already as dark as dusk. Thick smoke and ash replaced the view of the blue sky and clouds above. Temperatures had shot up past hundreds of degrees, thanks to the raging fire that had successfully invaded the surrounding forest. The menacing volcano ahead showed no mercy as it emptied its bowels of magma, sulphur, and suffocating ash and smoke.
And, apparently, a massive dragon.
Daisy stood in the midst of the apocalyptic chaos, unable to move. The ash had merged with her blonde hair, looking like bizzare snowflakes on her head. Bruises and scratches surrounded her slender face like patchwork, and her beat-up appearance was emphasised by her torn jacket, ripped jeans, and damaged sneakers.
But none of that was her immediate concern. Not even the venom from the Poisa tree made her this worried.
From a distance, she could hear it. The terrifying sound of freedom coming from a mythical beast. It cut deep into her soul, sending shivers down her aching spine. There was no reason for it to be any closer to the mountain that once served as its prison. Daisy predicted that it'd immediately attack the neighbouring towns and cities, inciting a state of emergency.
As she recalled all three of its heads staring at her, her heart raced with fear and awe. Dr. Takizawa had often spoken of the beast's terrifying magnificence, but she wasn't the one for bedtime stories. Of course she didn't believe shit. But seeing it with her own eyes, feeling the sheer horror it inspired . . .
Daisy Medley's lips drew up in a smile as tears slid down from her green eyes. Lives would be lost, a staggering amount, yes. But it'd be all for the greater good. The benefit of the remaining global population. As nothing fashioned by humanity could stop a Titan, perhaps another could. Ghidorah was the key—and the only way—to stop Godzilla.
As Daisy fell to her knees, finally succumbing to the smoke and the poison, she looked up with a sense of victory already. She remembered the oath she gave after Takizawa’s demise, believing in its ultimate fulfilment. Believing she'd just released the real King of Monsters.
“We did it, Dr. T.” She whispered as she crumbled weakly to the ground. “Godzilla wouldn’t know what hit him.”
