Last year, Nigeria witnessed one of it's most devastating floods in decades. Hundreds of people died and thousands left homeless. Farmlands were not spared as farmers lost a lot of crop yield.
With such experience, one would think some lessons would have been learnt to prevent a future occurrence. We are presently witnessing the raining season and communities have started experiencing floods. National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) warns that a lot of states will experience severe floods. Why are states not preparing ?
It seems like business as usual and there are mounting worries that we may experience worse. Farmers cannot have a repeat of last year as they are still counting their losses from last year. We are presently experiencing dire economic woes as the prices of foods in the market have increased. A floods in states with farming population will only make things worse. For all our sakes, the government must rise this challenge.
