The time was 11:27 pm.
Maazi Ahitophel and his family had just concluded their late night supper. This time they had chosen to eat outside because they wanted to escape the heat that reigned inside the house.
Maazi and his eldest daughter had earlier ran into a disagreement which saw him slap her in the presence of her younger ones. The night’s food had been prepared later than usual to his displeasure, looking up to the moon which was shining at its full strength the Maazi beheld the apparition of a man-shaped being.
This being was high up in the heavens, covered in a white torn apparel, it had a red girdle with its face covered with a hood. The helm of its garment was very long and stretched downwards from the sky. It also appeared to stand on a wooden slate, as if it were a form of a modern flying glider.
Confused at what he saw, the Maazi looked away and mumbled a prayer to his Chi. ‘Papa, look’ his youngest child Adaeze said. ‘I can see a man in the moon’ she continued sharply.
‘Stop, my child. Don’t attract it towards us, many evils lurk at night’ the Maazi cautioned her.
In the twinkle of an eye, this being from the heavens swooped down into the compound of Maazi Ahitophel. Beneath its hood was utter darkness, revealing its facelessness. Upon witnessing this, the Maazi’s family ran away in utter horror, leaving their progenitor to face alone their supernatural adversary.
Swiftly it walked to where the Maazi sat.
The Maazi chose not to shriek out of fear, but stayed collected and cool, steadily chanting a protection spell.
The being came upon him and lifted him up from his stool into the wooden slate, and was high up in the heavens before he could say òfu.
Looking down to the Earth from above, battered by the fresh wind of the early morn, the Maazi was filled with fear.
‘What do you want from me?’ He managed to question his abductor.
‘Misty eyes’ the being said slowly in a cracked, fearful and cold voice.
‘Misti gini?’ the Maazi asked, confused. By now his heart was beating faintly.
‘Ò sim, what do you want from me?’ the Maazi asked again.
‘To see higher’ the being said in a slow eerie voice and delved its dark faceless head into the fingers of the Maazi, biting off his right thumb.
The Maazi screamed out of shock, as his voice registered a loud cry of pain through the skies.
