“Stephanie, Stephanie”, “wake up, wake up”. I wriggle, stretch my hands and slowly opened my eyes to see who was calling my name. “Wake up, sleepy sleepy”, Samantha said it’s already 8am. “Did you have that much fun?” She asked. I got up and sat on the bed I needed more sleep but I had laundry.
“So tell me about your night?” “Did you have fun at the party?” “Did you meet any boys?”, “This one you over slept hope you didn’t take any of their drinks?”. So many questions at once, but one stuck.
“It was ok”, I replied casually. I didn’t want to overshare, I packed my clothes down to wash with Samantha. “So that’s all?”, “it was ok”, “that’s all your are going to say”, she said. Well it was really boring, I replied. It’s just alcohol and extremely loud music. She laughed. “What were you expecting?”, she asked. We quickly finished washing and spread our clothes on the line. Samantha parents had still not sent her money. So I was still responsible for her feeding, as I loved her I had spent a lot more catering for two and I could feel the burden deeply in my wallet I had to put and end to this but didn’t know how to I was confused and exhausted but I didn’t want her hungry. She didn’t even make any promise to pay back, I didn’t want to seem like a bad person. I didn’t know how to my feelings to words at the time so she gets the message without being upset.
We got food from the cafe, I had beans, rice and beef stew. Samantha had yam porridge and beef stew. We played this new movie I had collected from my course mate. It was a sunny Saturday but the advantage of my school we always had light so we didn’t get to feel the heat from inside, it was dim inside as we dropped the blinds and turn of the light. “How’s your day going?” A message notification from Nathan. I smiled and somehow Samantha noticed. She starts clearing her throat which I didn’t recall being blocked. “Seems someone has a boo”, she said.
“Boo?”, “how?”, I replied. “I’m fine” , “You?” I replied Nathan’s message.
We had a long conversation which led to us seeing at the engineering college and him wanting to help with the technical drawing assignment later that evening. I really liked he was easygoing. I turned to Samantha and asked when her when she thinks her parents would send her allowance. “I don’t know”, she replied but I asked my brother for money and he sent me three thousand Naira. I had a sigh of relief.
