If I had read children’s books as a child, I’d probably be an astronaut. Well, that is probably not true but now and again when I go to the bookshop to feed my addiction, I decide to pick up a children’s book or two, and when I read them, I always find them so affirming, so comforting, and it makes me wonder what reading them as a child would have meant to me.
Unfortunately, some people that I have shared this interest with, do not quite understand the appeal, especially as an adult. So let me try to convince you; they are amazing, oh you want more? Okay, here is what some of the great minds say about adults reading children’s books;
Sadi Nicholas – Delving into children’s books is a magical, transformative indulgence, whatever your age. And even though not all of them have happy endings, they are hopeful – which is something we all need in our serious, grown-up state
Katherine Rundell- The best children’s fiction “helps us refind things we may not even know we have lost”
Sarah S. Davis-Wonder is a concept found overwhelmingly in children’s literature, from picture books all the way to middle grade and graphic novels. Pitched for kids who are learning more about the great, wide world they live in, children’s books with wonder harness a young reader’s fathomless belief that life is full of fantastic surprises, enchanting experiences, magical worlds, and spirited characters whose troubles mimic their readership’s challenges, like forging friendships, finding acceptance, and navigating tricky home lives.
Imagine a world without bad governments, climate change, and genocides, in my final attempts to convince you to try reading children’s books, hear this out, while the language used in children’s books is meant for an oblivious mind, that child like oblivion is sometimes necessary in this world we live in and finally, I find children’s book good for getting out a reading slump, they are mostly short in pages, there are few words in a page, and most of the children’s books have illustrations so you do not just read words, you have colourful illustrations to help you get back in the reading mood.
