In a surprising announcement, global pop icon Rihanna has announced her decision to step down as the CEO of Savage X Fenty, the renowned lingerie brand.
The 'Umbrella' coroner founded the company in 2018 and has been instrumental in revolutionizing the lingerie industry by promoting inclusivity and diversity.
Under Rihanna's leadership, Savage X Fenty gained widespread commendation for its groundbreaking approach, challenging traditional beauty standards and embracing body positivity. The brand, co-owned by LVMH, quickly became a symbol of empowerment, celebrating individuals of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds.
While stepping down as CEO, Rihanna will remain actively involved in the brand as a shareholder and creative director, ensuring her continued influence and vision. She expressed her gratitude to the team and collaborators who have supported her in building Savage X Fenty into a global success.
"It's been beautiful to see our vision for Savage X Fenty impact the industry at such an incredible magnitude over the last five years," the pop icon tells Vogue Business.
"This is just the beginning for us, and we're going to continue to expand in ways that always connect with the consumer."
Also welcoming the new CEO, Hillary Super, Rihanna says, "I'm so grateful and excited to welcome Hillary Super as our new CEO - she is a strong leader and is focused on taking the business to an even higher level."
Hillary Super to assume office on June 26
Before her new position, which would take effect on Monday, June 26, Super served as a former CEO of Anthropologie Group. She previously worked at Guess, American Eagle, Gap and Old Navy.
Super says, "I'm thrilled to join the Savage X Fenty family. The brand is a major powerhouse in the lingerie and apparel industry, and its unwavering commitment to celebrating inclusivity and fearlessness is inspiring."
Rihanna's decision to relinquish her position as CEO comes as she seeks to explore new avenues and expand her creative endeavours. Fans and industry observers eagerly await her next moves, as she has previously demonstrated her ability to redefine norms and make an impact in various sectors, including fashion, beauty, and philanthropy.
The news of Rihanna's transition from CEO marks the end of an era for Savage and Fenty. However, her legacy of championing size-inclusivity and reshaping the lingerie industry is likely to endure, continuing to inspire positive change and redefine beauty standards.
