On Tuesday, June 13, the Guinness World Record announced that Hilda ‘Baci’ Effiong Bassey, a 26-year-old Nigerian chef, has made history by shattering the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon.
During the cook-a-thon between Thursday, May 11, and Monday, May 15, Baci went on a 100 hours cooking spree, surpassing the 89 hours 45 minutes record previously set by Lata Tondon, an Indian chef.
In a statement, the GWR said Baci officially broke the record for the longest cooking marathon (individuals) with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes after almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.
GWR says, “As with all ‘longest marathon’ records, the participant is permitted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity. These rest breaks can be accumulated if not taken.
“They were the only times Hilda could use the bathroom or sleep during the attempt.”
Details also show that the 26-year-old chef dived into the event by developing a 35-item menu as a guide for every meal cooked. The meals were also served to her fans while the event was streamed live on her Instagram.
One record, never too many
Continuing, GWR adds that, “Hilda’s cook-a-thon was in fact so popular that our website crashed for two days due to the immense volume of traffic we received from her legion of loyal fans.”
A recent post by GWR on Twitter shows that Baci did not only break the cooking record or crash GWR’s website for two days straight, but she also gave the organisation its most performing post on social media.
With all these feats by Baci, AMAKA is excited to announce that it will bring you its sizzling moment with GWR’s latest record-breaker.
