The annual extravaganza serves as a platform for local designers to shine on the global stage, placing Egypt on the map as a vibrant and influential fashion destination.
The highly anticipated annual event celebrating the country's burgeoning fashion industry, kicked off in style on May 12th. The four-day extravaganza brought together a diverse range of designers, models, celebrities, and fashion enthusiasts from around the world.
The event, which was held in several venues, is organised by the Egyptian Fashion and Design Council (EFDC) supported by Egypt's Ministries of Planning and Economic Development, Tourism and Antiquities, and Agriculture and Land Reclamation.
The opening ceremony was a grand affair, featuring an array of stunning collections from both established and emerging designers. More than 70 designers were a part of the event, highlighting creative interpretations of Egyptian heritage and cultural motifs.
"By organising this event, we are keen to develop and guide Egyptian designers, artisans and manufacturers to meet international standards and showcase in the local and international fashion arena," said Marie-Louis Bishara, chairperson of the Apparel Export Council of Egypt and co-founder of the EFDC for Xinhua.
"Through this event, we are conveying a message that Egypt is ready to export fully designed and manufactured products with high quality to the global market."
The event, which has been in the works for about four years, was themed “Past, Present and Future” in tribute to Egypt’s heritage and civilisation. Renowned Egyptian fashion houses, including The Design Studio by Azza Fahmy, Sabry Marouf, Fashion & Design Centre, Cairo Design District, Fad Dubai and Creative Space BeirutZedify, and Farida Temraza, presented their latest collections, captivating the audience with their meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail.
In addition to celebrating local talent, Egypt Fashion Week also attracted international designers who showcased their unique perspectives on Egyptian fashion. Designers from neighbouring countries, such as Lebanon, Jordan, and Morocco, joined hands with Egyptian designers to promote cross-cultural collaborations and an exchange of ideas.
The runway shows were not the only highlights of the event. Egypt Fashion Week also hosted panel discussions, workshops, and networking events, providing a platform for industry experts, fashion journalists, and aspiring designers to engage in insightful conversations about the future of fashion in Egypt and beyond.
