South African Olympic athlete, Caster Semenya is set to publish a memoir in October titled, "The Race to Be Myself" under Merky Books, the publishing imprint started by British-Ghanaian rapper Stormzy.
At 18, Semenya's career began receiving wide attention following her win at the 2009 world championships in Berlin.
However, the 800m Olympic champion's career highs were quickly overshadowed by criticisms regarding her gender, leading to an eventual ban from competing at women's events due to her refusal to take testosterone-suppressing medications.
In a statement, Semenya said: “My life has had its struggles, but it has mostly been a joy. Through my example, I want to educate, enlighten and inform about how the world can welcome those born different. You may have heard some of my stories over the years, and you might have seen me running or standing proudly on the podium at the Olympics. But there is still so much I need to relate about strength, courage, love, resilience and being true to who you are. I want this book to show people around the world how to do just that.”
